There seems to be two types of 5-stone stone circles. 1) the tall 'blocky' ones, which is probably best illustrated at Knocknaneirk - NE (County Cork) & 2) the low 'slabby' ones, which could well be best illustrated here.

This is a lovely example of its genre. The two entrance stones are equally proportioned and square in profile. The next two stones are again equally sized but pointed. The axial stone is 1.6m long and a little under 1m high with rounded corners. These small 5-stone circles are wonderfully simple in their form - I think they could well be the final perfection of the stone circle.

Only the 'in the field' setting lets this circle down, but even the almost suffocating hedgerows can't really detract from its beauty of form. If there's a nicer 5-stoner somewhere then take me to it. In the meantime visit this easily accesible micro-wonder-circle.
