| Ardristan 2 - Standing Stone |
A fine example of a Carlow grooved stone, quite different in shape to the one at Williamstown. This grooved stone is a very tall phallic upright, quite different from the other nearby stone, making this pairing very odd. They do not give the impression of being a male/female pairing.
This stone is well worth a visit. Sadly it will soon be separated from its partner by road re-routing.

What a stone to take someone to. The grooves still bewilder me everytime I get close to this 2m+ stone.

I knew that I was passing by this stone on my recent travels, but the road layout now means that you only see the stone when heading north. When I came this way yesterday it was dark, but today I was early enough to spot where it is. The new road layout means that the stone is now just 50m from the gate, but be careful - there is a bull in the field on occasion.
Take the N81 south from Tullow. The stones are in a field on the left, about 40 meters in just as you come to the new road reallignment roadworks.
