Ok. You either need a four wheel drive (preferably amphibious) or no brains to drive up to this tomb. Guess which catagory I must fall into! The track up to this one is diabolical. I definitely drove through more water than over gravel. But the journey is well worth the effort when you reach here.
The monument is a very simple box style, 2m long by 1.3m square at the front. The west end slab is missing, but the east one has a corner chipped away. Was this part of the original design or is it damage caused by someone trying to get inside? The answer could be either, because several other local tombs have a similar feature.
Through the rain I could see that the views from here are quite amazing and I will return on my next sunny day in Clare (if such a thing exists) and take them in properly. One word of advice - approach this tomb from the east, then turn the car around and go back down the same way. DO NOT under any circumstances continue along the track to the west, especially if it is bucketing it down with rain. You may never make it - I think I was lucky.
Anyway, I think there's a local pub somewhere with my name on a seat at the bar. Time to go and find it.
