My favourite standing stone of all is the Glencullen standing stone in county Dublin, because it is a lovely quartzite pillar 1.7m tall. Well, this stone is not far off being as good! It too is a 1.7m tall quartzite pillar, similarly square in section.

I love quartz anyway, but in this quantity it is sublime! One face of this stone is very red in colour - I'm not sure if this is painted or just from a high iron content.

This one is slightly small in cross section than the Glencullen stone. If you're in the north then head for this stone. It's quite beautiful.

Whilst here we were wondering if these magnificent stones could have been the focal point for a much larger monument.
