| Kells - High Cross | St. Columb's House - Kells - Oratory |
Kells round tower now lacks a roof and one of the crosses has lost the upper part of its circle. Although beautifully carved the crosses are like many others. The tower, apparently, has one unusual feature, i.e. that the topmost floor has 5 windows instead of the more usual 4. These 5 windows point to the 5 ancient gates into the walled city of Kells. The church here is where the amazing Book Of Kells was found.

After my visit to Loughcrew - Patrickstown (County Meath) my feet were still wet, so I decided to stop at Kells to wander around a bit and dry off. I do love this place. The round tower and three high crosses - wondeful.

Once in Kells you can not miss the tower. From Dublin take the N3.
