Today was a day of many things, most of them rain! However, I had planned to go hunting for some un-OS-map-marked sites and the first one was a stone circle in Ballyedmonduff, near the fantastic wedge tomb. I had supposed that it would be a cairn kerb or something, but I don't think that I actually found it, but just 15m from where it should have been was this incredible stone.
It is about 1.5m long (tall) and is definitely shaped to be flat faced and symmetrical when viewed from the front. The 'base' of it - presumably the part that would have been below ground is very rough hewn.
I need to check out the authenticity of this stone. It is not on the OS nor is it in the archaeological inventory for County Dublin - perhaps it is the last part of the elusive stone circle.

From the N11 take the R116 through Kiltiernan and on to Glencullen. At Johnny Fox's Pub turn right. After about 3/4 mile you will see a golf course on the left. About 250m past this and just past a house you will see a gate on the left with a stoney track leading to the woods. Cross this field and just as you enter the woods you will see a grass track off to the right. Follow this to the field fence and go left. Almost immediately you will see another grass track going up the hill through the woods. Just keep going up this for about 150m and you will find the stone.
