Visit Notes

Friday, 29th March 2002

It is good to see this cross standing, but it is disappointing to note that a large part of it is missing. The cross base is splendid and the carving is still visible.

About 40cm of the pillar remain and then there is 1.3m of concrete before the crosshead. I imagine it must have lay in the ground for a while and a lot of the carving has faded.

Along with the church this site is well worth a look.

The cross seems even more eroded now than on my last visit, but this could be because the weather was more dull. Last time I was here I had a bit of sunlight to cast some shadows.

The seats of the court at the rear of the church have rotted away now, making dangerous/impossible to view the back of the cross head safely. The rest of this cross must be around somewhere. Surely it's worth a bit of archaeology to try and find it.
