This is an easy mound to see but not an easy mound to reach due to barbed wire fences, young pine plantations and a peat bog!
The mound is spectacularly situated on a small promontory on the northern edge of the hill and offers stunning views. It is quite large and irregularly shaped. Height 4m, diameter 15m+.
I am not sure but it seems to lie somewhere close to where the midwinter sun would set when standing at the nearby Ballymaice tomb.

We actually wondered over to this today to have a look, being as we were heading for the nearby stone circle. As we approach it from the west it seemed that the mound actually mimicked the shape of Howth in the bay below, but on closer inspection the odd 'landscaping' of the mound would seem to be because of cairn robbing. Excitement over.
A beautiful spot though from which you can see Loughcrew, Tara, the Mournes Slieve Gullion and the Sligo mountains shadowed on the horizon.

Follow the R114 out of Dublin and take the third right after Oldbawn. Be careful this is a nasty turn that doubles back on itself on a blind bend. Follow the road and then the track until you reach a small settlement. Park at the entrance to the forest and follow the track for about 300m. Turn right and head through the trees until you reach the fence. You should see the mound from there.
