This tower cannot fail to impress. It is a lot more ornate than most I have seen and is still in very good condition. Situated at the rear of a modern church next to the ruins of a much older, larger church the fine condition of this tomb seems almost imaginery.

The conical roof is still there and the windows still retain fine stone sills and frames.

When I first visited this site all those years ago I didn't really know much about round towers and so I didn't realise how special the Romanesque doorway in this one is. It's been a long time since I was in the area, so I had to come back and take some photos of it.

The doorway is really, really nice. There are four orders of decoration forming the arch above the door. Two of these are set back on the inner edge of the tower wall and separated from the front door frame by a narrow porch. As the doorway is 5m in the air you are always looking up at the decoration, which adds to its loveliness.
