Visit Notes

This panel is not marked on the OS map. It lies in the small stretch of land between the road and the northernmost shore of Lough Fada.

The quality of the carvings surprised me. I have never seen an exposed panel with such clearly defined designs. The main motifs is a cup with three rings. The rings are over 1cm deep. To one side of this there is another cup and ring motif and a solitary few cups. There is a third cup and ring carved above the main motif.

It was here I bumped into local historian Desi McCillion and had a very interesting chat. He told me of some of the sites that follow this one on this trip. It was great to meet someone with such a passion for the history and prehistory of the area.
