Visit Notes

Sunday, 19th August 2007

We parked early and walked up the valley towards the footbridge that would take us across to the stones. As we approached we could see a single stone gleaming in the sunlight (yes, we really had sunshine!) We knew where we were heading!

We crossed the river and walked up the slope towards the stone. It wasn't until we reached the top of the small knoll where the stone stood that we could see why the OS map says Standing Stones. Hiding behind the 1.6m tall stone we could see all the time there is a second stone that is just 80cm tall.

Both of the stones are solid quartz and are aligned roughly west. It's hard to say what they align to, as opposite there are just the steep slopes of the other side of the valley.
