Visit Notes

Sunday, 20th January 2002

I had marked this place for a quick visit site as it is just 4.5km from my house and today was the perfect opportunity to go.

The barrow is a lovely, well preserved ring barrow with a 1m deep ditch all the way around it. From the bottom of the ditch the height is approximately 2.4m tall. The diameter of the ring is around 10m.

Directions

To reach Newtown Hill the best plan is to park at Johnny Fox's pub in Glencullen and walk east towards Kiltiernan until you rach the new church. I crossed to the rear of the churchyard, scrambled over the wall and walked up the hill through the fields.

The barrow is on the crest of the hill behind a hedge from this approach.
