Most of the cairns I have visited in Waterford so far have been quite small, so I was not expecting anything this big. It's very large - about 30m in diameter and over 3m high. There is no kerb. A modern cross (painted white and blue was erected on the cairn in 1987 (I think). The OS trig point has also been painted bright blue. There is a walkers' shelter built from the cairn on its south side.
To the south the view is spectacular, looking over Dungarvan and the many bays around the coast. To the northeast the Knockmealdown Mountains can be seen. On this day they appeared to be floating on a bed of mist. From the cairn you can see the standing stone and cairns in the pass below.
