Tucked away behind the church in the mid-afternoon shadow of the round tower there is a small, unassuming building. This is St. Declan's Oratory. There are ante on the west end of the building and a door in the north wall. Inside there is a large, stone-lined pit. This is said to be the last resting place of the remains of St. Declan, but has long been emptied by relic hunters.
The sign by the door says that it is said St. Declan was Bishop of Munster before St. Patrick came to Ireland.
