Usually when you see a picture of a good fulacht fia or burnt mound they are pretty low. This one, however, is over 2m high! Where rabbits have burrowed into the mound you can see just how black the soil is from the amount of charcoal that it contains.

This was probably the site of a feasting place used before travellers crossed over the Monavullagh Mountains via the pass known as The Gap, whch starts just a short distance from this site.
