I don't think I've ever visited such an unusually sited standing stone. I think this is a ture example of an ancient track marker as it stands alongside the route over the Monavullagh mountains known as The Gap.

This 2m tall stone is on a northwest facing slope at the head of northwest facing valley formed by the River Nuir. Just below the stone there is a huge fulacht fia (see sub-site) that was possibly used regularly before crossing the mountains through The Gap.
