This earthfast bulllaun stone is just outside the west wall of the graveyard. It has two very large bullauns set roughly in its centre. The largest is 40cms across. The boulder is very roughly octagonal with irregular length sides.

To reach it you can climb over a low spot in the wall about 15m inside the gate to the left. Beware of the large stone to the right of the low gap - it's very loose and should not be held on to when climbing the wall!

Like me on my first visit Andy hadn't seen two of the stones here. This, combined with the facts that we'd seen 22 bullaun stones around Glendalough (County Wicklow) and Liam Price mentions a fourth stone here, we decided to call in on our way back to Dublin.

Today the weather was so much better than on my previous visit. It was possible to properly see across to the Wicklow Mountains and north up the valley to Roundwood. Wonderful.

Directions

Head south from Roundwood on the Glandalough/Laragh road for just over 1km. At this point you will be able to see a church tower on the rise to the left. Take the first road on the left (signposted Roundwood Cemetery) and park at the graveyard gates. Walk back down the road to the edge of the graveyard and look into the field. Here you will see a telegraph pole and the bullaun stone is at the foot of this.
