Visit Notes

Sunday, 9th December 2001

I did not intend to visit this place, in fact I did not have th map of this area and so was ignorant of its presence. As I drove towards Ferns I could see, silhouetted against the sunrise, the roung tower. The abbey ruins are quite spectacular in their own right, added to by the crosses and cross slab.

There are numerous information points around the site.

I was lucky enough to just share these ruins with the sunrise and some sheep.

Can anywhere seriously be as picturesque all the time!? Last time I stopped here it was sunrise, today the sun was up, but the mist was swirling around in picture card fashion. Unfortunately, by the time I'd finished looking at the crosses it had lifted.

Today's farm animal of choice in the field was cows, not sheep.
