I spent quite some time searching for two of the bullauns on the slopes to the north of the main monastic complex without success. When I returned to the boat I commented on this to the ferryman, who then volunteered to show me where they are. Many thanks to him for taking time to do this. He’s extremely knowledgeable about the island and has produced a nice little booklet about it that is well worth buying.
This bullaun stone is tucked away beneath some brambles to one side of a clump of trees and is extremely difficult to find if you don’t know where it is. Hopefully my GPS reading and the photos will help other to locate it.
This shallow bullaun is a massive 50cm plus across and nearly takes up the whole of the stone’s upper surface. Unfortunately, one side of it has broken off.
