One of the oddities on the island is not actually on the island, but a few metres offshore. On the east side of the island, in the water, is this bullaun stone. It has a single small bullaun carved in a natural ledge on the upper surface.
It is significantly different to the other bullauns on the island in that the boulder is not flat-topped and the bullaun is only 15cm across. All of the others are significantly different.
It’s very difficult to fight your way down to the shore and find this stone, but it is worth the effort. For me it was even worth getting very wet feet and wading out to the stone to take a proper look.
I believe that this bullaun formed part of the pattern performed during pilgrimages, where the pilgrims would walk around it several times barefoot.
