Stopping here was an on the spur of the moment thing: I just happened to see the signpost on the N69 and followed them. And got lost. And then found the site. The problem is that at one junction there is no sign.
The well is situated on the western slopes of Knockpatrick in a small, well kept enclosure and covered by a modern well-house, which also houses a large figure of St. Patrick. Typically he is dressed as a modern bishop with crozier and mitre. Why do people do this? St. Patrick probably looked more like Gandalf! At the top of the hill there is an old monastic settlement with very good views (when it's not raining!) See Knockpatrick (County Limerick).

From Foynes head east along the N69 for a little over 1km until you see Knockpatrick signposted to the right. Follow this road for 2km until you reach the second 5-way junction. Turn right and continue until you reach the farm gate on the right, which has large signs for the site. Drive up this track until the first gate and park. The well is in the field to the right.
