It was actually this 1.5m tall standing stone that brought me up this boggy slope in the first place. Its relationship with Boleycarrigeen (County Wicklow) intrigued me. What I discovered here was beyond my expectations.
From this spot Boleycarrigeen would be visible across the valley if it wasn't surrounded by trees. More than that though it appears that this standing stone is in fact an outlier to an axial stone circle that has, up until now, been considered to be a possible hut site (see Keadeen (County Wicklow)).
I wasn't really able to take in what must be great views because of low cloud in every direction, but the atmosphere here felt great. This westward facing slope has a real feeling of isolation about it that is so hard to find tese days.
