Visit Notes

I had read of some passage tombs that were being lost to the sea, so I decided to check them out. I was in no way prepared for just how much they are being washed into the sea!

A rough circle of rocks lies on the beach to the east of Knocknagin (County Meath) below the high tide line. There are some other rocks scattered to either side of the central 'ring'. Normally you wouldn't take any notice of such a group of large stones on a beach, but they are the only ones on the entire 5km stretch of beach and were recorded as being more complete in the 1800s. Obviously, I can not be 100% certain that this is the correct spot, but it does tie in with the information I have to hand.

There was also mention of two tombs being lost 300m to the northeast, but this would put them well into the sea, so the direction must be either northwest or southeast. Checking both directions I could find no trace.
