After Reananarree (County Cork) this is a bit of a change. Reenanarree is built in the open, this is built tucked away in a little pocket in a rocky outcrop. The whole hilltop is studded with these huge surges of rock, so why this one? I think it has to do with the way that The Paps dominate the horizon from here.
The circle has a lovely quartz centre stone, making me like it even more. Suggestive mountains on the horizon and quartz! What more could you ask for?
At around 7.5m this is comparable to Carrigagulla (County Cork) except the change in height of the stones is not so obvious here. The lushness and feeling of safety around Carrigagulla contrasts heavily with the barren, exposed feeling here, though.
