| Burgage - Cross |
This high cross is impressively tall (5-6m) and dated to the 12th Century. It used to stand by a well, possibly in an old monastic site, which is now submerged below the Poulaphuca resevoir. It now stands near to the south wall of Burgage cemetery.
The ring is unpierced and local lore says that it used to have a second pair of arms, although no traces of these can be seen today. The centre of the head is marked by a very bold boss on both sides.
In the 19th Century the cross was known as St. BaoithÌn's Cross.
