Visit Notes

Sunday, 17th August 2003

This was an unplanned stop, but as I drove past the sign to the well something caught my eye. Sitting on a modern stone altar was a big round stone - a turn stone.

The well is located on the banks of Lough Meelagh along with several other wells. There was also an abbey here too.

In one part of the well is a basin like stone with a wide scoop in it. I suspect the turn stone may have originally sat in this, it is certainly the right size.
