Visit Notes

Sunday, 22nd June 2003

I believe that this bullaun was moved here from the old church at Ashborn (O 185 035) 700m west. It now stands, quite amazingly on a pedastal, at the junction of the R765 and R755 at the north end of Roundwood.

The inside of the bullaun is stained red where the minerals have been leeched out of the stone but the water gathering in it, making it look quite grusome really.

I know I love my bullaun stones, and seem that they seem to have some strange attraction for me, but I think putting one on a pedastal is taking it a little too far. The fact that there is no sign nearby to say what it is, or where it came from, makes it look like an arty-farty birdbath!
