Hey this is big! From all the pictures of this stone that I've ever seen none of them have ever shown its size well. Quite ironically I didn't take such a picture either. This is because I got talking to a local couple who were out visiting some sites too. It's always a pleasure to meet people, though.
The stone now resides just inside the field next to the gate post. It originally stood on the highest part of the field about 200m away. At least it didn't end up in a ditch!
It is of the local pebble encrusted mudstone, which must have been a real pain to carve the inscription into. The inscription is a very odd one which reads CATABAR MOCO BIRIQORB - 'Battle-head tribesman of Chariot-man' .... whatever that means!

It would be lovely to know exactly where this stone originally stood so that you could assess the views towards the Comeragh Mountains to the west.
