As I got out of the car to go to the high cross my sixth sense - my "there's a bullaun nearby" sense - started twitching. I could almost feel this stone's presence. Quite an uncomfortable feeling, actually! So, I went and looked at the cross and then wondered into the graveyard behind it.
Bingo! Sitting comfortably in the shade beneath a tree in the centre of the old graveyard is a big old boulder, sun-dappled through the overhanging leaves - the sun had now returned. Carved in to the upper surface of this stone is a single bullaun about 20cm in diameter, offset as is quite often the case towards one end.
Despite the proximity of a lot of traffic this seems a very calm and tranquil spot, but I suppose a lot of graveyards do. If you're in the area don't just stop to look at the cross, but take the time to visit this nice bullaun stone.
