More Stone Circles in Wicklow?

You have to wonder how many stone circles there are left to be discovered in County Wicklow. When I heard about the (re)discovery of a five-stone stone circle in a remote location I originally decided to leave going to see it, because it sounded hard to find. However, I found myself in the area today and went to see if I could find it. How did it take so long for someone to identify this thing? It's huge.

Before I went to see the sites at Toor I stopped by the passage tomb at Carrig (County Wicklow), because some recent photos showed it to have been cleaned up a bit.

Megalithomania now has more than 6000 images of over 1600 sites! Nowhere on the internet offers more on Irish prehistoric and early Christian sites.

A Not Too Exciting Day

I set off mid-morning to take some fish to The Aquatic Village in Brittas (Co. Wicklow) and then head off to climb Baltinglass Hill before setting off to some other sites. However, the weather was appalling, so I bought some fish and supplies and set off home.

Later in the day the weather improved allowing me to go out. I had intended to get to a few places, but only managed one in the end. For a long time I've waned to visit the standing stone at Coan in the Glen of Imaal, County Wicklow, but I've never quite managed it. The stone stands just inside a military firing range, so I've always been rather worried about visiting it. On two previous attempted visits I have chickened out of venturing off the main track. Today I looked around and saw lots of sheep in the area of the stone and so (mmaybe quite stupidly) took the plunge. I later went to see if I could visit the rock-art at Humewood Castle, but the gates at every entrance were lockes, so I couldn't even go in and ask.
