Rounding Up Some Strays

After the exhileration of climbing Knocknafallia Mountain the day before, I was after more down to earth monuments to finish off my tour of County Waterford. Today was all about standing stones, cairns, barrows and a cave.

I started off with two nice ring barrows, with panoramic views to the west. Then it was a hunt for a stray standing stone that has gone for good. To follow this I went to see a stone pair that is not marked on the OS maps, which was on the way to a group of denuded, but interestingly placed cairns.

The icing on today's trip was definitely Kilgreany Cave. When excavated, evidence of 6500 years of habitation was uncovered. How good is that!
